Etat Libre d'Orange

History

Etienne de Swardt founded Etat Libre d'Orange in 2006, convinced that perfume gains from breaking away from convention: he sees it as a pretext to reach out to others, to find oneself, to love and to desire. The house settled at 69 rue des Archives, in the Marais, an address that would give its name to one of its fragrances.

Its creations tell stories, often with humour or insolence, drawing on every era and every continent: poems, novels, real or imaginary figures. Behind the provocative names, the house claims great rigour in the quality of its materials. In 2026 it celebrates its twentieth anniversary.
