History

In 1828 Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain opened his first boutique on the rue de Rivoli in Paris, selling creams, rouges and perfumes to an elegant clientele. His descendants turned the house into a dynasty of perfumers: Jicky, in 1889, is often cited as one of the first modern fragrances, followed by L'Heure Bleue in 1912 and Shalimar in 1925.

In 1914 the family moved to 68 avenue des Champs-Élysées, into a townhouse that remains its showcase today. The L'Art & La Matière collection gathers the house's freest creations, presented in a contemporary version of the 1870 square bottle, refillable and customisable.
