Le Labo
The New York house that turned perfume into laboratory work, formulated by hand, with names of materials followed by a number and personalised labels.
Official website(new tab)History
Le Labo was born in 2006 from two friends dreaming of a scented revolution in the face of a perfumery they found too conventional. Their first lab opened at 233 Elizabeth Street, in the Nolita neighbourhood of New York. There the house defends a simple idea: too many bottles, not enough fragrances with a soul.
Its manifesto champions irreverence, handwork and a touch of wabi-sabi: hand-picked roses, hand-poured candles, hand-formulated perfumes. Most of its fragrances bear the name of a material followed by a number, and each bottle a label that can be personalised. The house follows its materials back to their harvests, from Kimberley sandalwood in Australia to Grasse rose and Calabrian bergamot.
