Portrait
Sophie Labbé
Fascinated since childhood by perfumes and the treasures of nature, Sophie Labbé trained at ISIPCA and discovered the profession alongside perfumer Jean Kerléo, a decisive encounter. She conceives her fragrances as stories, fed by sensations, memories and images.
Curious and attentive to the smallest detail, deeply attached to the beauty of ingredients, she composed Menorca for Memo Paris, a salty, luminous fragrance.
Career and creations
Sophie Labbé grew up between Paris and Charente-Maritime, between the buzz of the capital and the calm of rows of vines. Meeting perfumer Jean Kerléo in 1985 was decisive. After a degree in chemistry, she joined ISIPCA and graduated top of her class in 1987. She then spent five years at Givaudan and twenty-seven years at IFF, before joining dsm-firmenich in 2019. The fragrance company highlights her love of contrasts and of the land: she enjoys sublimating a rose from Grasse or a Tunisian neroli with an unexpected harmony, and likes to compare perfumery to gardening, two crafts that require patience.
For Memo Paris, she composed Menorca. She wanted to recapture the sensation of salt crystallising on skin bathed by the Mediterranean, under the summer sun: luminous citrus and floral notes for the island's light, then a musk as close to the skin as possible, around a mineral, salty accord. Neroli, orris, sandalwood and carrot seed complete the composition.
