Chypre

A fresh opening set against a base of moss and patchouli. The most elegant of tensions.

Understanding the family

The chypre family owes its name to François Coty's Chypre, launched in 1917. Its structure rests on a contrast: the freshness of bergamot at the top, the depth of oakmoss and labdanum in the base.

From this contrast comes a particular elegance, both dry and sensual. Chypres can be fruity, floral or leathery; modern versions often replace the moss with patchouli.
