Fougère

Lavender, oakmoss and coumarin. A green, aromatic architecture at the heart of classical perfumery.

Understanding the family

The fern has no scent of its own: the family takes its name from Fougère Royale, created by Houbigant in 1882, one of the first perfumes to use a synthetic molecule, coumarin. Its structure joins lavender, oakmoss and that sweet, hay-like note.

Fresh at the top, aromatic at heart, mossy and warm in the base, the fougère became the foundation of classical men's perfumery. Today it comes in greener, spicier or more ambery versions.
