Gérald Ghislain
Born in Morocco and raised in the south of France, Gérald Ghislain first refined his nose in the kitchen, as a restaurateur. After training at ISIPCA, he founded Histoires de Parfums in 2000 and conceived its entire collection.
For him, a fragrance does not seek the most beautiful smell but the most beautiful emotion: each creation tells a story, like a chapter in a book.
Career and creations
According to Histoires de Parfums, Gérald Ghislain opened his first restaurant at twenty-two; by the late 1990s he was running two establishments in Paris. He sees gastronomy as a world close to perfume: in both cases, he says, we elevate nature, and what matters is sensuality and sharing. In 2000, after solid training at ISIPCA, he founded his house, at a time when niche perfumery was only beginning. In 2022 he also launched Olibanum, a brand guided by simplicity and care for the environment.
His collection is an olfactory library telling of famous characters, mythical years, poems and music. Birth years give their names to several fragrances: 1725 Casanova, a seducer's amber fougère of lavender, anise and almond; 1740 Marquis de Sade, a spicy, libertine leather in which davana evokes a macerated plum; 1804 George Sand, a portrait in white flowers, fruit and soft spices. 1969 Parfum de Révolte celebrates a year of freedom, between peach and chocolate, and Ambre 114 composes a luminous, spicy amber.
