Career and creations
Born in Germany to an Iranian father and a German mother, Hamid Merati-Kashani grew up in Isfahan, Iran, until the end of the 1979 revolution. He describes himself as "Iranian in education, German in organisation". A perfumer at dsm-firmenich, he cherishes memories of the rose fields of his childhood, where friends distilled rose oil. He says he learns a great deal from customers in the Middle East, who have developed their own olfactory culture and are not afraid to mix fragrances to create their own.
For Goldfield & Banks, he created Silky Woods, the first fragrance in the Botanical Series: a woody gourmand built around tropical Australian agarwood, sustainably harvested for the first time in perfume history, according to the house. Cinnamon and tobacco leaf open it, ylang-ylang and vanilla form its heart, and oud gives it depth.
He also composed Ingenious Ginger, a floral amber built around the Red Back ginger of the Atherton Tablelands: mandarin and ginger brighten a heart of magnolia, on a base of amber and Australian sandalwood.
