Understanding the family

In the nineteenth century, birch tar was used to soften and scent Russian leathers; perfumers drew an entire family from it. Leather fragrances evoke tanned hide, smoke and the inside of a new bag.

Depending on the materials, leather can be smoky and dark or, on the contrary, supple and powdery like a kid glove. It pairs readily with flowers, spices and woods.
