Aurélien Guichard

Founding perfumer of Matière Première, Aurélien Guichard is presented by his house as the only perfumer who grows his own raw materials, on certified organic land in the Grasse region.

He composes all the house's fragrances on one principle: the overdose of a central natural material, pushed to the fore without artifice — centifolia rose, Greek saffron, Finnish birch, Australian sandalwood.

Career and creations

Matière Première grew out of the first fields planted by Aurélien Guichard in 2016; each harvest is entirely and exclusively devoted to one fragrance. The only perfumer in the world to grow his own raw materials, according to his house, he works in Grasse on Ecocert-certified land: where others choose, he plants. Each creation starts from one material, its terroir, the people who grow it and the way it is extracted, then pushes it into an overdose, without artifice.

Radical Rose takes centifolia rose absolute from the house's fields to its highest possible concentration. Santal Austral puts Australian sandalwood forward from the very first seconds, made velvety by Tuscan orris. Falcon Leather imagines a falconer's glove warmed by the sun, around Finnish birch tar. Encens Suave seeks a pleasure incense rather than a church incense, warmed by coffee and vanilla. Finally, Cologne Cédrat gives a trail to the zest of citron, spiced with peppers and extended by maté.
